Tonight’s your night to get answers to all those burning questions you’ve got about “Rookie Blue” – with a high probability of actually being answered – straight from the fingers of Officer Dov Epstein aka actor Gregory Smith.
From 10 to 11 p.m. EST, Smith will be taking and answering questions – in 140 characters or less – in real time via his Twitter account, @gregorythesmith. In addition to responding to your queries, he’ll be offering up commentary on what’s happening during the episode and giving you behind-the-scenes anecdotes. As he tweeted the other day, he’s “brushing up on my mavis beacon skills” just for the chat. (High five for the Beacon reference, by the way, even if it does bring back horrible memories of being hunched over black and white Macs at school.)
Here’s an inspiration question: “Why do the rookies have to wear long sleeve uniform shirts while the TO’s get to wear short sleeves? It must get polyester hot in there…”
In case you missed the teaser, tonight’s ep will be a good one for highly enthusiastic Dov and his roomie/fellow rookie, Chris Diaz (Travis Milne) – not only are they part of a sting operation at a car dealership, but they also have to deal with getting caught in a booby-trapped meth house.
If you’re one of those folks that likes to watch your TV on the computer, be sure to check out ABC.com’s episode commentary tracks, too. There, the cast and producers offer up Twitter-length posts about what you’re seeing on screen. Sad emoticon: These short statements are not part of a larger commentary that’ll pop up on a future DVD release. If that’s your cuppa tea, you’ll just have to keep your fingers crossed that the production studio decides it’s worth it to gather the cast together to record audio commentaries this season, since they didn’t bother to do it for the Season 1 DVD. (A shame, since the “Rookie Blue” cast seems to be fun and friendly, which would probably make for some entertaining chatter. )
By the way: ABC has already greenlit Season 3 for next summer. Three cheers for 15 Division!

Rookie Blue has officially been picked up for a third season.

The cop drama stars Missy Peregrym as Andy McNally, the daughter of a former homicide detective who has recently graduated from the police academy.

Peregrym previously announced the show’s renewal on her Twitter account, though the post was later deleted.

ABC and Canada’s Global network have now confirmed that new episodes of Rookie Blue will begin filming in Toronto later this summer.

Rookie Blue’s second season began airing on June 23, with the most recent episode attracting 1.4m viewers.

Former Everwood star Gregory Smith, Smallville’s Eric Johnson and Ben Bass also appear in the series.

Rookie Blue continues on Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
